Tottenham are on the verge of signing Sergio Reguilon from Real Madrid from under Manchester United’s noses after agreeing two terms United refused. Spurs are set to enter into negotiations with the defender’s representatives after agreeing a £27.5million deal with Madrid.
Tottenham appear set to pip United to the signing of Reguilon.
The defender has been made available my Real Madrid this summer with the 23-year-old facing limited first-team opportunities under Zinedine Zidane.
United had seemed to be in the driving seat to sign the left-back, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to improve his options in that position.
They had even agreed to meet Madrid’s £27.5m valuation of the Spaniard, but the deal hit a snag due to two additional clauses.
JUST IN: Tottenham handed Gareth Bale transfer issue by Real Madrid stance
Madrid wanted to insert a buy-back option into the deal, which would have allowed them to reverse the transfer for just under £37m, meaning United would have made just less than £10m in profit on him.
They also wanted a clause put in place to allow them to match any bids made for him in the future, even if they were below the £37m buy-back clause.
However, United were adamant that those terms were unacceptable, and were trying to talk with Madrid to get them to remove the clauses from the deal – or alter them.
However, Spurs have now swooped in with an offer of their own to sign Reguilon, and have had their bid accepted by Madrid.

Crucially, they accepted the two clauses United rejected, and as a result they are now free to talk to the player’s representatives.
The left-back would be the second defensive signing Jose Mourinho will make of the summer so far, with Matt Doherty also arriving from Wolves.
Spurs’ defence was poor last season, and they are determined to buy new reinforcements during the current window.
Danny Rose, Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies are Spurs’ current options at left-back, though it appears Davies could play in a more central role this season if Reguilon arrives.

The Spanish defender isn’t the only player Spurs are in talks to sign from Madrid, as they are also negotiating over a return for Gareth Bale.
The Welshman’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, confirmed on Tuesday that the winger wants to return to Tottenham this summer, and doesn’t want to stay at the Bernabeu.
United are also interested in making a move for the 31-year-old, but would only bid if they are unable to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs had offered Dele Alli as a makeweight in the deal for Bale, but Madrid turned down the chance to sign the England international.
