Thomas Tuchel backed to win Manager of the Year if Chelsea lift Champions League

Former Chelsea goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer, has backed Blues manager Thomas Tuchel to win Manager of the Year should he win both the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Tuchel only arrived in London in late January, and transformed Chelsea – who had been underperforming under former coach Frank Lampard.

And Schwarzer believes success in the two cups, as well as a top four Premier League finish, could see Tuchel named the best maanger of the season.

"What happens if Chelsea: win the FA Cup, get in the top four, and also win the Champions League," Schwarzer told Sky Sports.

"Is that all of a sudden that big that he suddenly becomes manager of the season, all be it, coming midway through it, I mean, that's remarkable."

Under Lampard, Chelsea sunk to ninth, and were dumped out of the League Cup by eventual finalists Spurs.

Since then Jose Mourinho, Diego Simeone, Carlo Ancelotti, and Pep Guardiola have all fallen short to Tuchel's Chelsea.

And, before their 5-2 collapse against West Brom, Chelsea had only conceded four goals in 20 matches.

"To think Chelsea are in the position they are in now, and he's obviously the big reason for them doing that," Schwarzer continued.

"His man-management with the group of players has been superb.

"He's certainly done incredibly well with the group of players he's got there."

Whilst the Premier League may now be out-of-reach, Chelsea have a date against Leicester at Wembley for the FA Cup in May.

And on Tuesday night, they face Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions League – with the dream of Istanbul still intact.
