Harry Kane was given a standing ovation by the Tottenham Hotspur faithful ahead of his first start of the season on Thursday night.

Kane started as captain in the second leg of Spurs' play-off tie against Pacos de Ferreira in the Europa Conference League and scored a brace in the first half.

It was Kane's first appearance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season and also his first appearance since the collapse of his prospective move to Manchester City.

After a summer of links and rumours, Kane announced on Wednesday that he would not be leaving Spurs this summer after all.

The England captain received a standing ovation from the crowd as the players emerged from the tunnel ahead of kick-off and he was also serenaded.

The chant of "Harry Kane, he's one of our own" echoed around the stadium as the match kicked-off, with Kane making his first start of the season.

Kane was not included in the matchday squad for the opening weekend victory over City two weeks ago after returning late from his summer holidays.

He then did not travel for the first leg last week before appearing as second half substitute against Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Kane started as captain for Nuno Espirito Santo's side in the second leg as he named a stronger and more experienced side to the one that lost in Portugal a week ago.

The Spurs boss had made 11 changes for the first leg away to Pacos de Ferreira and named a substitutes bench without any senior first team players.

However, Kane cancelled out the Portuguese side's first leg advantage after just 10 minutes having already gone close in the opening exchanges.

Harry Winks won the ball back on the halfway line before playing through new signing Bryan Gil, who squared the ball for Kane to slot into the bottom corner.

Kane then added a second 10 minutes before the break to put Spurs ahead in the tie as he latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area to bury the ball into the bottom corner.

Kane's goals put Spurs ahead both on the night and in the tie, with the winners heading into the group stages of the inaugural Europa Conference League.
