Manchester United want Sergio Reguilon to shore up the left-side of their defence this season.

Chelsea were the front-runners for the full-back at the start of the summer but have since spent big on Ben Chilwell, meaning they no longer require the Spaniard's services.

Sevilla are keen to land Reguilon again after he impressed for them last season.

The 23-year-old is expected to leave Real Madrid one way or another in the coming weeks, with the Bernabeu outfit ready to cash in.

Here is what we know so far about United's long-running interest in Reguilon during the current transfer window.

Madrid demand

Manchester United and Real Madrid are yet to reach an agreement over left-back Sergio Reguilon.

Although the two clubs are both keen to reach a deal this summer, Los Blancos are not happy with one element of the proposal made by the Red Devils.

The Spanish champions want to included a buy-back option in the contract according to Spanish outlet Cope, which doesn’t fit in with the plans of United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer keen

Solskjaer wants to sign the £27million-rated left-back this summer.

But the Mirror report Madrid want a buy-back clause in any deal.

United are understood to be unwilling to enter into such an agreement with Los Blancos.

However, Solskjaer will push the club to secure a deal before October 5th.

Instagram hint

Reguilon’s latest Instagram update has sent Manchester United fans crazy amid talk that he will join the Red Devils.

The transfer saga has taken another twist after Reguilon deleted the details about playing for both Sevilla and Real Madrid in the biography of his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The 23-year-old also changed his profile picture to a snap of him representing his national team, having picked up his first full cap over the weekend.

Reguilon posted a picture in Spain colours on Monday afternoon alongside the caption: “Dreams come true. Happy to debut with @sefutbol.

“Great job from everyone and victory to become leaders #WeareSpain.”

The comments were dominated by replies from United fans, who either told him to join the Red Devils or preemptively welcomed him to the club.

Another option

Should United fail with their Reguilon chase, the club have a backup plan.

United are also reportedly watching Monaco left-back Fode Ballo-Toure, who is under contract until 2023.

The under-21 international would be brought in as a back-up for Shaw, while Brandon Williams would be shifted over the right-back as back-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Transfer Window Podcast reporter Duncan Castles reports Toure is one of the options being pursued, using the cash was meant to be for Jadon Sancho this summer.

United promise

United may have beaten their rivals to a deal with their promises to the player.

Spanish outlet AS report Reguilon has been tempted by the United offer as he has been assured of a starting place at Old Trafford.

It’s thought that his performances on loan for Sevilla peaked the interest of the club officials.
