Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly be offered to Manchester United if Manchester City are unable to come to an agreement with Juventus over the forward.
Ronaldo was unexpectedly revealed on Thursday to be looking for a transfer away from Juventus in the hope of seeking a new challenge elsewhere.
With Pep Guardiola’s side tipped as favourites to sign the Portugal captain, Ronaldo has reportedly missed training today while his agent Jorge Mendes discusses a potential bid with City.
But Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio believes a deal for the player may be too costly for the Premier League champions, meaning he could be offered to rivals Manchester United where he played from 2003 to 2009.
Speaking to BettingExpert, Di Marzio said: “Manchester United thought about re-signing him some time ago, not these days. He [Jorges Mendes] has to find a solution for Cristiano.
“If Manchester City say they can’t make an offer to Juventus, Jorge Mendes will knock to United and other clubs.
“We cannot say now it’s impossible, but the only club that is really flirting with Jorge Mendes is Manchester City at this moment.”
Man United and French giants Paris Saint-Germain were both linked with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner earlier in the window as Man City prioritised signing Harry Kane, which officially fell through this week.
Di Marzio insisted Ronaldo is pushing to leave Turin but an offer from Man City could depend on whether the club can sell winger Raheem Sterling in the final days of the transfer window.
He said: “The only certain thing is that Cristiano is crazy to go. He never learned the Italian language, he only speaks Portuguese.
Do you think Ronaldo will end up signing for Man City Let us know in the comments section.
“He doesn't have an incredible feeling with his teammates, he’s an individual guy. Now, he needs another challenge. In this moment, he wants to leave, but he’s not free.
“Sterling has had some problems with Pep. Pep would like to have Cristiano as a replacement for Sterling. But it’s not so easy to sell Sterling in the last few days of the transfer window.
“I don’t know if Sterling wants to leave, but I know Guardiola would let him go. So it depends on different conditions.”
