Chelsea: Should Lampard be given more time to succeed?
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard deserves to be given more time by owner Roman Abramovich, according to his former England team-mate Rio Ferdinand. Lampard has come under pressure for his position after a run of four defeats in the last six Premier League matches for the Blues. Chelsea are three points off the top four with most of the teams above them having at least one game in hand over them.
Chelsea recorded a comfortable win in the FA Cup on Sunday, beating League Two Morecambe 4-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard fielded a strong side despite the calibre of opposition for the third round tie.
Ferdinand says it was important for Chelsea to return to winning ways, even if it was against a fourth-tier side.
And he believes Lampard must be given more time by the club’s hierarchy to get the best out of the newly-built Blues squad.

“The bigger picture for Frank is that he’s looking for performances and he’s looking for results,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
“It’s been a bit of a sticky time for Chelsea of late, he’s come under a bit of scrutiny, people shouting him out in the media.
“I don’t think it’s been called for to be honest with you.
“I think he’s got a whole new squad almost, big players have come in, that takes time.

“I think he deserves that time, he did well last year given they had no transfer window.
“He would have liked to have rested players [against Morecambe] but he saw this as an opportunity for some players who were struggling for a bit of form to get some form back and some confidence.”
Following the win over Morecambe, Lampard insisted it was the right reaction he wanted after a poor run of late.
“Yes, we got what we wanted from the team,” Lampard said.
“It’s not easy when you’re expected to win, which is right with our squad.
“They made it difficult for us early on but we did well and got our goals, and it will give confidence for the lads.
“It will give us a bit of confidence, but I don’t want to overstate that because of the nature of the game.
“We’ve had a period where we haven’t had a good run, and we need to get better results. And the only way out for us is to work hard, and the lads worked hard this week in training.”
