‘Football has no patience’: PSG defender Marquinhos backs under-fire Thomas Tuchel to turn results around with his side in danger of missing out on Champions League knockout stage

- They took an early lead through Angel di Maria but then let their advantage slip

- Manager Thomas Tuchel is under pressure to turn results around in Paris
Paris Saint-Germain star Marquinhos has given his full backing to manager Thomas Tuchel after they fell to yet another defeat in the Champions League.
Despite going a goal up through Angel di Maria, PSG fell to a 2-1 defeat away to RB Leipzig on Wednesday night, with Christopher Nkunku and Emil Forsberg scoring for the Bundesliga outfit.
The defeat, which saw Di Maria also miss a penalty at 1-0 and Idrissa Gueye and Presnel Kimpembe sent off, leaves last season’s finalists in danger of missing out on the knockout stage of the Champions League.

But captain Marquinhos was quick to defend his manager after the latest setback
But captain Marquinhos, whose PSG side have just three points from as many matches after also losing at home to Manchester United during the opening round of fixtures, told fans who are growing frustrated with Tuchel to look at his heroics from last season.
‘Of course [we support him],’ the Brazilian said following the final whistle. ‘We know how football is. It is the coach who has had the best season in club history. Football has no patience.
‘We need to focus on the real things. Today he is our coach at PSG, we have confidence in him. If things aren’t going well it’s not just the coach’s fault, the players can do things better too.
‘When you’re on the pitch you have to fight to win, no matter how you play, good or bad.’

Tuchel’s position is also slightly under threat due to his contentious relationship with the club’s sporting director Leonardo.
Tuchel had to work with a hastily assembled squad when he saw three of four of his new summer signings arrive with just hours left of the transfer deadline.
Meanwhile the manager was also unhappy with the handling of out-of-contract experienced stars Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani, who would eventually both leave for the Premier League.
Tuchel led the Ligue 1 giants to a domestic treble last season and to the Champions League final, where they had their hearts broken following a 1-0 defeat by Bayern Munich.

Tuchel and his PSG side will now be desperate to bounce book as they now look to resurrect their Champions League campaign after going so close last season.
They trail both United and Leipzig by three points in their group with three matches remaining.
They will be looking to get their revenge on Leipzig at home on November 24 before facing United away and finally Istanbul Basaksehir in early December.
