Pep Guardiola has hinted Manchester City could spend more than £100m on a player

The Premier League leaders have been linked with a big money move for Erling Haaland

‘Spending a lot of money on one player doesn’t give you an advantage to win,’ Guardiola told a press conference.

‘Football is a team game, everyone makes a contribution. Competitions are not won by one player, it is every player.

‘So far the club has decided not to spend close to £100m for a player. Maybe in the future it will happen when the club decides it is necessary to improve the team for the next 5-10 years but so far the organisation decides not to do it and that’s why we didn’t do it but maybe in the future.’

Guardiola praised the Norwegian striker for the stats he is producing at such a young age

Guardiola was full of praise for Haaland when asked about the 20-year-old, revealing his admiration for the Norwegian striker who has scored 20 goals in 14 Champions League appearances.

‘I understand people ask about Haaland, of course exceptional striker but you understand its not appropriate for me to say,’ the City boss said.

‘All I can say is he is exceptional, with his age. The numbers speak for themselves.

‘At that age to score this amount of goals is not easy to find. He can score right, left, on the counter attack in the box, with the header. He’s a fantastic striker, everybody knows it.’
