Pep Guardiola has urged Manchester City to wrap up the Premier League this weekend and help their Treble quest.

The City boss – on the verge of a third consecutive league crown – does not want Arsenal to hand over the title by losing at Nottingham Forest on Saturday and would rather his team earn it.

But he has warned that Chelsea, who delayed City celebrations with a result at the Etihad Stadium two years ago, will arrive with the aim of ruining the party.

‘You have to control it and be focused – we cannot be distracted right now,’ Guardiola said.

‘Every game we win helps for the next one. Winning the league as quick as possible helps us prepare the next games, the FA Cup and Champions league finals, in better condition.

If Arsenal lose City will be crowned champions but Guardiola wants his side to earn the title

‘Now is coming the most difficult thing. Tennis players say serving to win Wimbledon is the most difficult one. On Sunday, the game is in our hands to win the most important competition.

‘I have a good memory. When we played against United to win the Premier League in 2018, 2-0 up at half-time and we lost the game. Against Aston Villa last year we were 20 minutes away from losing the Premier League at home.’

Guardiola that he never envisaged having the opportunity of clinching the title with two games to spare, revealing that viewing each match as a ‘must-win’ during the run-in has spurred his team on.

‘In my mind, I’d like to feel we have to win to be champions,’ he added, claiming there is no champagne on ice. ‘This is what we have to think. We cannot control Nottingham, we have to do our job.’
