Paul Scholes’ Amad Diallo assessment as he hints at Man Utd teen’s limitation

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has given his assessment of teenage star Amad Diallo – and has identified a limitation.

The 18-year-old was given his senior debut in the last minutes of the Red Devils’ 4-0 Europa League win over Real Sociedad.

And the Ivorian, who has four goals and three assists from his first three U23s game, made the most of it with some impressive dribbling.

But Scholes, who graduated from United’ academy to win 25 major titles in the famous red shirt, questioned one part of Diallo’s game.

Speaking on BT Sport after the win, the 46-year-old said: “We didn’t see too much. He looks a talented player, I watched the under-23s last week, he scored a goal and made a couple.

“He’s got real talent, a nice left foot. Is he quick? I’m not too sure, I haven’t seen that yet.

“But I think his creative play, a very young player still at 18, we’ll give him time and hopefully he can do well for us.”

The United faithful, though, were more interested in singing Diallo’s praises at full time in Turin.

“His dribbling was amazing! From what we can see,” one supporter said.

Another commented: “The way he plays the ball – we have got a baller!”

While a third wished he had been given more of a chance, with: “Decent debut. Didnt get enough time to do much but looked alright in the game.”

And a fourth added: “His movement on the ball is absolutely world class. 3 take ons completely, more than any player in the 2nd half and he came on at 80+ mins.”
