Non-league football team Bromley FC have teamed up with Xbox and Football Manager to deliver a one-of-a-kind opportunity for a fan to swap the gaming chair for one in the manager’s office.
The ambitious fifth division team have today launched ‘The Everyday Tactician’, a campaign to find a Football Manager mastermind to join Andy Woodman’s coaching staff.
The winner will take up a five-month role at the Kent-based team and will be tasked with helping them steer towards promotion to the Football League for the first time in the club’s 131-year history.
‘This isn’t a gimmick,’ Woodman told Mail Sport.
‘This is a real opportunity and when it was presented to me to get someone into our coaching team and be alongside us with the tactics, I thought it was a brilliant idea. I really, really did.

‘I’ll make them feel welcome very early on that they do feel part of the team and then the next step is then to let them have their voice and their opinions and be a part of us.’
Woodman has heard plenty on the terraces believing they can do a better job and now one lucky Football Manager 2024 player will get a chance to put their video game skills to the test out in the field.
The winning player will assume the role of ‘Support Performance Tactician’ through towards the end of the National League season, trying to aid Bromley, who are currently fourth in the National League after 19 matches, in scouting opposition and patterns of play.
That information will be used by the staff and players – who include Dennis Bergkamp’s son Mitchel.
‘Football fans are full of opinions on how their team can do better on the pitch – now with the help of Xbox and Bromley F.C we can finally find out if their theories are right and follow the journey of ‘The Everyday Tactician’,’ Miles Jacobson, Studio Director of Sports Interactive, creators of Football Manager, explained.
‘I expect there might be a bit more to it than even we at Football Manager anticipate.’
Football Manager is marking its 20th anniversary and this campaign has been created in celebration of the release of FM24 on PC or console with Xbox’s Game Pass.
‘It’s a perfect bit of timing to have Xbox on board with us,’ Woodman added.
It is a collaboration between Bromley, Xbox and Football Manager to put gamers to the test
A three-part documentary will capture how winner gets on working in England’s fifth division
‘I’m sure it’s going to make one or two green eyes at other clubs, but I must maintain this isn’t a publicity stunt. This is a real opportunity for us to get someone working in-house with us. That’s going to really add value to us.’
To be in with a chance of landing the one-of-a-kind gig at Bromley, hopeful tacticians need to apply by completing the Xbox achievement ‘Championes’ in FM24 on PC with PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate, and on console with Game Pass for Console or Game Pass Ultimate, by guiding a team of their choice to glory by winning a domestic league title.
‘We are excited to be teaming Xbox Game Pass with Football Manager and Bromley FC to give a Football Manager gamer a unique insight into professional football management,’ Xbox Northern Europe Director, James Butcher, said.
‘Xbox Game Pass is home to some of the best sports content, and this first-of-its-kind job application is giving a member of the Xbox community the chance to live out their dream.’
Once the winner has been chosen, fans will be able to follow their journey online and across Bromley’s social media, Football Manager and Xbox UK’s channels, as well as TNT Sports, the Vanarama National League’s official Broadcast Partner.
The journey will also be recorded in a three-part documentary to be released next year.
Competition open only to legal residents of Great Britain and Northern Ireland 18+. Submission date ends 12/4/23. For full details and Terms & Conditions, see www.xbox.com/the-everyday-tactician
