No Euro bonus for Hammers with West Ham's players all in the same boat

No Euro bonus for Hammers with West Ham’s players all in the same boat – they WON’T receive any extra if they win the Conference League because of a lack of clauses in their contracts

  • The Hammers are favourites to lift the trophy and have one foot in the final
  • It is usually standard for players to have incentives inserted into their contracts
  • Even the likes of Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta will not be granted a bonus

West Ham’s players, including captain Declan Rice, will not receive any bonuses if they win the Europa Conference League, Mail Sport can reveal.

It is standard for players to have performance-based incentives inserted into their contracts. It was recently revealed that Manchester City’s top talents, such as Kevin De Bruyne, will receive close to £1million if they can deliver the club’s first Champions League trophy.

However, West Ham have managed to avoid including such bonuses in individual contracts as they aim to win their first European trophy since 1965.

It is partly due to the Conference League being so new, having only started in 2021.

Rice, for example, signed his last deal with the club in 2018, before UEFA had created the competition.

None of the players have the clauses in their contracts that would allow them to be paid extra

But sources have confirmed that even West Ham’s newer signings — such as Lucas Paqueta, who joined last summer from Lyon for £53m — are not due to receive any additional money if they win the Conference League.

West Ham are in the semi-finals with a 2-1 lead from their first leg against AZ Alkmaar. The second leg in the Netherlands will take place on Thursday.

When Leicester won the Premier League in 2015-16, their players did not have a title bonus in their contracts. But Leicester’s late owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, spent more than £2m to reward each member of the squad with a royal blue BMW i8 sports car.

It remains to be seen if West Ham would reward their players in some way in the absence of contractual bonuses. The club would receive £4.4m for winning the Conference League.
