Neymar has already made feelings clear on joining Casemiro as Man Utd make move

Neymar has already suggested that he would be open to playing with Casemiro at Manchester United as he continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford ahead of next season. The 31-year-old is reportedly mulling over the idea of leaving Paris Saint-Germain in order to embark on a new challenge elsewhere after spending six years at the Parc des Princes since joining the club from Barcelona back in 2017.

United have already kickstarted ‘active negotiations’ over a potential move for Neymar, according to L’Equipe, with PSG open to letting him leave either permanently or on loan with the option for the Red Devils to buy him in the summer of 2024. It is also claimed that Casemiro has been in regular contact with Neymar in an attempt to convince his fellow Brazilian to make the switch to Old Trafford when the campaign draws to a close.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid last summer and has quickly emerged as one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players, with the 31-year-old having brought some much-needed additional quality to the Dutchman’s ranks in the middle of the park. It seems as though Neymar also rates Casemiro highly after showering his international team-mate in high praise on social media during the World Cup last winter.

Neymar was ruled out of Brazil’s group stage meeting with Switzerland due to an injury, but Casemiro managed to step up in the former’s absence to score the decisive goal with just seven minutes remaining. His match-winning performance led Neymar to honour the United playmaker on Twitter by posting after the full-time whistle: “Casemiro has been the best midfielder in the world for a long time.”

Casemiro went on to issue a response to Neymar’s praise by insisting that it will always be a matter of personal opinion to determine the best players on the planet despite being left flattered by his team-mate’s glowing review.

He told Terra: “Well, first I’m glad to be in this discussion. I’m glad that people compare me, that I’m part of that list and that people remember my name, but this criterion I leave to the people, to journalists, to whom football debates. I don’t like to put myself in this place or even think I’m [the best].”

It remains to be seen whether Neymar and Casemiro will end up working together at Old Trafford next season, with a move seemingly on the cards for the PSG forward if United can keep making progress in discussions behind the scenes over the coming weeks. The role of Casemiro could also prove crucial in convincing Neymar to jump ship to the Red Devils, where he would also be linking up with fellow Brazilian buddies Fred and Antony.

The outcome of United’s ongoing takeover process could have major implications regarding their pursuit of Neymar, with Sheikh Jassim reportedly keen on bringing him to Manchester as a statement signing if he beats Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race to buy the club. United’s apparent discussions with PSG would suggest that figures at Old Trafford are bracing themselves for Sheikh Jassim’s success, although only time will tell how the situation will eventually play out between now and the start of next season.
