Newcastle are set to wear Adidas shirts next season after a five-year deal with the German company was mistakenly revealed in the club’s Amazon Prime documentary.

Adidias previously supplied Magpies’ kits from 1995 until 2010,  a period that included Alan Shearer’s iconic stint at the club, but they were replaced by Puma 13 years ago, with Castore taking over in 2021.

They are now set for a return to the iconic brand, with an episode of their Amazon documentary showing a delegation travelling to Germany to agree the deal.

Shearer, who narrates the episode, says the deal ‘could be worth hundreds of millions of pounds in kit and retail sales over the next five years’, while it is also described as ‘the most lucrative in the club’s history.’

Co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi was pictured at the factory in the episode, and said to Adidas employees: ‘It feels like two old lovers getting back together.’

The deal was not due to be announced until September 1, but the episode was mistakenly aired on Friday and left up for several hours.

Newcastle’s current deal with Castore is due to run beyond the end of this season, meaning it is likely to be cut short in order to make way for Adidas.

The manufacturer tweeted a picture after the leak that featured their famous three stripes logo in Newcastle’s black and white with the caption ‘coming soon’.

Newcastle shared the post with the eyes and popcorn emojis, prompting fans to share their excitement at the ‘amazing’ news.

On the pitch, the Magpies have enjoyed a mixed start to the season after two tough fixtures.

Aston Villa are expected to challenge Newcastle for a European place this season, but Unai Emery’s side were turned over 5-1 at St James’ Park last week.

The Magpies found the going tougher on Saturday as they were beaten 1-0 by Man City at the Etihad,  although they are unlikely to face a harder game all season.

Newcastle will next be in action against Liverpool on Saturday.
