Jose Mourinho has confused Tottenham after ostracising Toby Alderweireld against Newcastle on Sunday.
Spurs drew 2-2 against Newcastle at St James Park on Easter Sunday in another blow to their Premier League campaign.
After Chelsea lost to West Brom on Saturday, Tottenham had a chance to go above them into the top four.
And facing a Newcastle side low on confidence, this was an excellent opportunity for Mourinho to silence his doubters.
However, those voices have just got louder after more points dropped from a winning position.
Arsenal loanee Joe Willock's 85th minute equaliser was the ninth time Tottenham had conceded after 80 minutes.
One person who missed out on the line-up was Alderweireld, with Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez picked instead.
It was revealed by Mourinho that Alderweireld missed out, along with Serge Aurier, because they had only trained for one day after returning from international duty.
“They were fit, yeah, but they reported for training only yesterday,” the manager told his post-match press conference.
“They went for their national teams and they didn't make the Covid tests on time to be in the training session on Thursday, not even on Friday. They come only yesterday.”
However, according to the Evening Standard, personnel at Tottenham have been left bemused by Mourinho’s comments.
They insist that Alderweireld reported to Hotspur Way on Wednesday afternoon.

The former Atletico Madrid star had played for Belgium win over Belarus on Tuesday in Leuven and travelled back to London the next morning.
Japhet Tanganga stepped up in Aurier’s absence, which has not been disputed by club insiders.
While Rodon was selected ahead of Alderweireld, and Mourinho was not pleased when asked if he would have picked his more senior pairing had they been available.
He said: “Maybe, but I'm not saying yes and I feel a bit strange because what are you trying to say? That Davinson Sanchez and Rodon were very bad?
“If you want to say that, then you say that but I'm not going to say that. If you want to say that Serge and Toby every time they played they were phenomenal, if you want to say then you say it.
“But don't put me with questions that you want an answer to but I don't have an answer to give or at least the answer you want.”
