Liverpool could have the upper hand in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe thanks to the club's owner, John W Henry.

Mbappe is one of the world's most-sought after players and cost Paris Saint-Germain £163million from Monaco back in 2018.

Yet the 22-year-old could be available for a cut-price fee in the near future with his bumper contract set to run out in June 2022.

No fresh terms have been agreed between Mbappe and PSG, which has alerted a host of the continent's wealthiest clubs.

Real Madrid and Barcelona would ordinarily be at the front of the queue, but both Spanish super powers are struggling financially.

That could allow Liverpool to swoop in and sign Mbappe with a little help from the club's main American backer, Henry.

According to L'Equipe, Liverpool's owner spent some time with Mbappe's family aboard his own private jet back in 2017.

He is said to have flown them over the city of Nice for two hours while engaging in conversation with his guests.

The trip reportedly left a fantastic impression on the player's family, which could be important when Mbappe's contract is up – or sooner.

It has been claimed the Frenchman could leave this summer in a deal worth upwards of £200million.

Mbappe is a once-in-a-generation talent and is considered the natural successor to the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Despite being just 22, he has already racked up over 200 first-team appearances and scored over 140 goals in all competitions.

He has won the Ligue 1 title on four occasions and also lifted the FIFA World Cup as an 19-year-old with France in 2018.
