Manchester United will have Cristiano Ronaldo at their disposal again after re-signing the forward from Juventus. The Portugal international previously spent six years at Old Trafford. And he can’t wait to get going at the Theatre of Dreams once again with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now his manager.

Ronaldo has admitted he’s spoken to Solskjaer about playing for United, saying: “Well, we had a chat, but of course I’m going to have time to speak with him face to face, to know what he expects.

“As you know, I played with him for two or three years at Manchester United so I have a good relationship with him but now with a different role, I’m a player and he’s a coach.

“But it doesn’t matter, my relationship with him is great and as I say before, I’m there in Manchester to help the team achieve his results and the coach can count on me for whatever he wants.

“So I’m available for everything.”

Ronaldo was part of a strong United squad. And, now, the Red Devils arguably have their best crop of players since his time with them.

So Express Sport will now go through the hard task of compiling a strong XI of Ronaldo’s team-mates past and present.

Goalkeeper: De Gea

This was certainly a tough one.

Edwin van der Sar was Mr Consistent during his time at United after joining from Fulham in 2006, being a key asset to Sir Alex Ferguson.

But the David De Gea of the Louis van Gaal era, in particular, was a class above.

If United can get De Gea back to that level, he’ll be the greatest shot-stopper in their entire history.

He’s started the current campaign in fine form – making a memorable double save against Wolves last week – so we’re going with him for the No 1 jersey.

Defence: Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra

There’s no denying United’s current back four has the potential to be impressive.

Full-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw have evolved fantastically, while Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane could be solid at the back.

But, given that back four has played together just once so far, it’s still too early to judge.

So we’re going with Ferguson’s preferred back four.

Gary Neville and Patrice Evra were both consistent at right-back and left-back respectively, while Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand represents arguably their best-ever defensive partnership.

Midfield: Scholes, Pogba, Fernandes

If United had Paul Scholes in his prime, everybody would be tipping them for title glory.

The England international was a major success at Old Trafford, winning 11 league crowns throughout his glittering spell at the club.

And though Michael Carrick was a good asset, we unfortunately have to leave him out.

Instead, we’ll go with Paul Pogba. On his day, the France international’s talent is unquestionable.

And Bruno Fernandes simply has to make the cut, with the 26-year-old very much the heartbeat of Solskjaer’s side.

Forwards: Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy, Rooney

What a frontline this would be.

In order to cram everyone in, we’ve deployed Ronaldo on the right wing. After all, that’s where he made his name at United – and where the club have struggled ever since his departure.

On the left, Wayne Rooney.

Rooney did play as a central striker during his latter years but, when Ferguson was in charge and Ronaldo was at the club, had to make do with being shunted out wide.

Down the middle, theres’ Ruud van Nistelrooy. A deadly goal-getter, his finishing was what made him one of the most-feared strikers in the land.
