Manchester United are readying to face Liverpool in a bizarre pre-season friendly hosted at Bangkok's revamped Rajamangala Stadium, which has a striking resemblance to another Premier League ground.

The usually fiery affair was a welcome fixture by Jurgen Klopp's men last term, the Reds romped to a 5-0 victory at Old Trafford before recording a 4-0 win on home soil, in what proved to be Paul Pogba's final outing as a United player.

New boss Erik ten Hag will be selecting his first starting line-up for the pre-season tour of Thailand – though star man Cristiano Ronaldo remains at home due to family reasons.

The match is scheduled for 14:00 BST at Rajamangala Stadium, which has undergone a major refurbishment ahead of hosting the juggernaut clash. The fishbowl arena – not a literal translation – has been emblazoned with 'The Match' branding as fans flock to catch a glimpse of some of the Premier League's brightest talent.

The 50,000-capacity venue has drawn comparisons with the London Stadium due to its circular appearance and mega screen at either end. And, just like the former London Olympics venue, Rajamangala Stadium has a retractable racetrack adjoining the pitch, meaning spectators are a minimum of 12 metres away from the action.

Thailand's national stadium underwent renovation as recently as 2019, but organiser Vinij Lertratanachai explains no expense was spared in preparation for the Bangkok Century Cup. "The turf has been re-laid, with new watering facilities and electric systems, as well as other facilities on par with world-class stadiums," he told Nation Thailand.

United boss Ten Hag has confirmed he is "really short" of players for the upcoming grudge match but is looking forward to leading out his team for the first time. "We have just started, some players only one week, so we now have to construct a team, we have to construct a way of playing," said Ten Hag earlier in the week.

"So, we are really short in pre-season [so far]. We achieved something but we have to develop a lot more. The standard of Manchester United is to win every game so we will start with that in our mind. We will be determined, and we are happy to play this game in Bangkok for many, many fans."

It's Manchester United vs Liverpool. It's live. And there can only be one winner of the prestigious Bangkok Century Cup.
