Man Utd ‘to let Osimhen join Chelsea or Bayern’ to sign Kolo Muani

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag reviews the Aston Villa game

Manchester United could be preparing to snub Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window as Erik ten Hag eyes an alternative, according to reports. The Dutchman has prioritised signing a goalscorer ahead of his second season at Old Trafford and may have landed on his first-choice option.

United have been strongly linked with Osimhen after an impressive season at Napoli, in which he has scored 26 goals in 33 games.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also credited with an interest, and the Red Devils could allow their rivals to steal a march by focusing on another frontman.

According to Sky Germany, United are currently pushing the hardest to sign Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani this summer.

Bayern are also touted as suitors, but the Old Trafford giants are said to be leading the race for his signature.

The report adds that Ten Hag ‘ranks’ Kolo Muani higher than Osimhen, suggesting he could very well be the Dutchman’s first choice.

The 24-year-old is enjoying a sensational campaign for Frankfurt and featured for France at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

He has scored 20 goals and registered 14 assists in 40 appearances since joining Frankfurt on a free transfer last summer.

But if United want to sign him at the end of the season, he won’t come cheap if French reports are to be believed.

L’Equipe claim Frankfurt are willing to cash in on Kolo Muani after just one year at the club, but only if they recoup £89million for his services.

United are expected to splash most of their initial summer budget on a marquee striker acquisition, with Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane also heavily linked.

But Ten Hag is also said to want reinforcements at right-back, centre-back and in midfield, while his No 1 is also up for debate amid uncertainty over David de Gea’s contract.

It likely leaves United in need of raising funds through player sales if they are to sufficiently bolster the Dutchman’s ranks within FFP regulations.
