Ratcliffe leaves Old Trafford after Man Utd takeover talks
Sheikh Jassim is plotting new talks with the Glazers to stay in the running to take control of Manchester United after it emerged Sir Jim Ratcliffe had submitted a higher offer in the third round of the bidding process. The Qatari is refusing to give up despite reports that he has fallen behind his takeover rival and now, he is planning private negotiations with the Glazers which could see him bypass Raine’s takeover process.
The Glazers are mulling over the final offers this week and, while nothing ‘significant’ occurred over the weekend, it is believed Ratcliffe’s offer of $6.5billion has trumped Sheikh Jassim’s – seemingly giving the INEOS CEO the advantage as the process edges towards it conclusion.
Sheikh Jassim’s bid, fronted by his charity Nine Two Foundation, will await feedback first before deciding on their final plan. But according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, sources cited close to the Jassim consortium have indicated they ‘haven’t ruled out going direct to the Glazers’ in an attempt to convince them to strike a deal.
This would entail removing intermediaries on their side and either meeting Glazers through finance firm Raine – or even bypassing them completely.
