Manchester United’s search for a central midfielder could be concluded soon with a move for Napoli star Fabian Ruiz after it emerged that the Italian side had decided on Tottenham’s Tanguy Ndombele as his replacement.
United have been linked with talents such as Declan Rice, Aurelien Tchouameni, Kalvin Phillips and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in recent weeks as Ralf Rangnick chases a box-to-box star to supplement Bruno Fernandes’ talent in central midfield.
A definitive target has not been decided upon, with many of their targets commanding huge transfer fees, thus throwing United off the scent.
Reports in Italy then linked them with Napoli star Fabian, who has just 18 months left on his contract.
It was suggested that he would replace Paul Pogba if he was to arrive, who is set to depart on a free transfer in the summer – although a replacement for the Spaniard must be agreed first.

And a potential deal has been heavily boosted after reports linked the Neapolitan side with wantaway Tottenham man Ndombele – paving the way for Fabian to join the Red Devils.
The Spaniard joined Napoli from Real Betis in 2018 after spending 14 years at the Andalusian club.
His midfield prowess has been superb on the Italian west coast, scoring five goals in just 16 league games this season.
And at the age of just 25, the Spanish international has time on his side to develop.

Meanwhile, Ndombele was booed off by incensed Tottenham fans as he slowly walked off the pitch in their 3-1 win over Morecambe last weekend.
He trudged off with just 20 minutes to play, despite the embarrassing fact the Lilywhites were losing 1-0 to their League One opponents at the time.
The Frenchman has failed to make a serious impact in his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with just six goals in 63 Premier League games.
And with Napoli’s interest in signing Ndombele, Antonio Conte’s men could pursue their interest in AC Milan star Franck Kessie as his replacement.
It is yet to be seen how much the Italian side would bid for Ndombele.
But Tottenham boss Conte hinted that the club’s chiefs had made the decision to axe Ndombele, stating the Frenchman’s future is out of his control.
“It was a technical decision But before to take the decision, I don’t take the decision if I don’t consult the club, there is the club line and I have to follow the club line,” Conte said.
