Man Utd fans slam Fernandes after alarming stats from Basaksehir game emerge

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has come under fire from fans after stats showed he gave the ball away 34 times in the 2-1 defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir.

More often than not since joining United in January, Fernandes has been the star man, providing creativity and creating chances for team-mates.

But he was anonymous in Sunday's defeat to Arsenal and in Turkey last night he was unable to inspire the team to a comeback.

Playing in his usual No 10 position, Fernandes created zero chances, registered just one shot on target, had a 73.8 per cent pass accuracy and lost possession 34 times.

Despite a clearly below-par performance, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer kept Fernandes on for the 90 minutes but fans on social media were far from satisfied.

One fan said: "Two games in a row now where he's been absolutely dreadful!"

Another wrote: "These are unacceptable stats. Funny thing is, he does this every game but will score a pen and everyone will say he played well."

And while one supporter claimed: "I’ve told man Grealish is better than Bruno and they just laughed."

Another fan said: "Penalty merchant, he does nothing all game then pops up and scores a penalty and everyone thinks he's elite."

And someone fumed: "That can’t be right. 34 is disgusting."

United now head to Goodison Park to face Everton on Saturday lunchtime and Fernandes feels the team aren't short of confidence but must get back to winning ways quickly.

"After two defeats it’s hard to think or say something about this," Fernandes told MUTV.

"But we need to look one week ago everyone said we’re going well and doing amazing games, we won against Newcastle, PSG, we beat Leipzig and we drew against Chelsea, but the points we have in the league is not the points we want.

"Today was important to win to be comfortable in the table.

"But now it’s the same, we need to go for every game to try and win and it will not be different now in the Champions League, we’re in a good position.

"In the league we're not in a good position, we need to do much better and we need to do something in the next game."
