Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed he expects Christian Eriksen to return from injury next month. The Denmark international has been out of action ever since a 3-1 FA Cup win over Reading in January. However, a comeback is now in sight.

Eriksen was crocked by Reading striker Andy Carroll back in the New Year, much to the dismay of Ten Hag and the rest of Manchester United.

However, speaking to TV2 Sport, the Dutchman has now confirmed the midfielder is nearing a return to action.

“It is very positive. He healed very quickly,” said the 53-year-old, whose side remain in the hunt for a cup treble.

“I don’t think he will be ready for Sunday [against Fulham], but he will be ready in April.

“He is on his way back, and we are happy about that. He is a class player that we need.

“I can’t wait for him to be back.”

United signed Eriksen back in the summer transfer window, landing the playmaker on a free transfer.

He’d previously not been expected to play football again after suffering a cardiac arrest at the European Championships in 2021.

But Eriksen has been a key asset for Ten Hag this season, providing nine assists and scoring twice from 31 appearances across all competitions.

When he returns, it’ll be interesting to see what United decide to do.

After learning of Eriksen’s injury timeframe back in the New Year, the Red Devils proceeded to sign Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich.

The Austria international has made a positive impression, too, rediscovering the form that made him so coveted during his time at RB Leipzig.

And United also have Casemiro, Fred and Scott McTominay as other midfield options, too.

Meanwhile, former Red Devils star Paul Parker thinks Eriksen has been ‘disrespected’ this season – insisting his absence has gone under the radar.

“The blow of missing Christian Eriksen has been bigger than expected,” Parker told SpilXperten.

“And the fact that no one is talking about it makes me feel that he is being disrespected.

“He is a very important player but no one notices it. He controls the pace of the game, he is the one to decide if Man United are going to attack or just relax on the ball.

“I would say that Man United is less capable of controlling games when he is not there.

“Fred and Sabitzer are brilliant players but they don’t have the same brain as he does.

“But of course, Man United has made some really good results without him and that might be the reason why no one is talking about him.

“But I have to say that Eriksen would make a good Man United team to a great Man United team.”

If Eriksen returns after the international break, it’s feasible he’ll be involved for United’s match with Newcastle on April 2.

They’ve already locked horns with Eddie Howe’s side twice this term, avoiding defeat in both matches.

United drew 0-0 with Newcastle back in October, with Marcus Rashford going closest to breaking the deadlock.

And they beat them 2-0 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley last month courtesy of goals from Rashford and Casemiro.
