Liverpool transfer round-up: Reds plot Mbappe deal, Torino star on radar

The final international break of the calendar year is still ongoing and will be succeeded by a congested club fixture schedule which will put Liverpool’s squad to the test.

It has already been a costly international break for the Reds, with a serious injury for defender Joe Gomez, who will join his defensive partner Virgil van Dijk as a long-term absentee, while Mohamed Salah has tested positive for Covid-19.

It is inevitable that the club will consider freshening up their options in the January window should the opportunities arise, particularly defensively.

There are also peripheral figures at the club who were not moved on in the summer window and the possibility of their exits will once again arise this time round.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours as clubs begin to look ahead to the January transfer window.

Reds urged to sign Bayern star

Liverpool completed the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer and their former striker Emile Heskey is now advising them to move for his old teammate David Alaba.

The Austrian international is out of contract at the Bavarian club next summer and contract talks have stalled, opening up the possibility of an exit on a free transfer next summer.

When quizzed by Rousing the Kop on whether the Reds should move for Alaba, Heskey explained, as per CaughtOffside: “I think so. You’ve got a player who plays left back, left side centre back and left wing back and he can step into midfield as well.

“You’ve got a younger version of James Milner, someone who can tick all the boxes but tick them well.

“If you look at what he’s achieved, he’s a winner, so he knows what it takes to win and that’s what you want within your squad.

“Because that rubs off on the younger players as well, because what you do and what you’ve achieved, they want to do as well.”

Merseyside derby for Torino's Bremer

Everton and Liverpool are both interested in landing Torino defender Gleison Bremer, according to a report in the Echo and as highlighted by Sports Mole.

The Brazilian has made 48 appearances for the Serie A side since arriving from Atletico Mineiro in 2018 and has developed into one of the most highly-rated defenders in the division.

The 23-year-old is now said to be on the radar of the Reds due to the long-term injuries for Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk, and a deal could be made as early as January.

However, he is also said to now be on a shortlist of targets for Everton and his future destination may spark a fresh battle on Merseyside in the coming months.

Reds prepared for clear-out to fund Mbappe deal

Liverpool are said to be serious in their interest of Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe and would reportedly sell current star forwards to fund the deal.

The details are highlighted by the Sunday Times (via Sport.fr), and amplified on psgtalk.com, claiming that the Reds do not see any of their current attacking stars as unsellable.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are all currently aged 28, seven years the senior of PSG and France international star Mbappe.

Now it is claimed that the Reds are so intent on securing the superstar in the future that they are already plotting to raise funds from their current crop of stars to make the deal possible.
