Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Thiago Alcantara latest, Mohamed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum’s Barcelona links plus Premier League updates

Liverpool are playing the waiting game in the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions have only added one player so far, Kostas Tsimikas of Olympiacos, with Jurgen Klopp conscious of not overreaching in a summer market like no other.

But with their rivals strengthening fans are desperate for the Reds to press on. Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara is the top choice with discussions had between the club and the Spaniard’s representatives. Thiago is keen for a new challenge with Liverpool one of his preferred destinations. If he arrives there could well be departures, however, with Georginio Wijnaldum of interest to new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman. We’ll have all the latest throughout the day:

LIVERPOOL TO SIGN YOUNG BRAZILIAN

Liverpool are set to sign 17-year-old goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga from Fluminese, according to reports.

The Telegraph states that the Premier League champions are set to seal a deal for the youngster in the region of £1.8m.

Pitaluga is yet to play a game for the Brazilian side’s senior team, but is thought to be highly rated by Liverpool’s scouting network and will be an understudy to compatriot Alisson.

BREWSTER TO BECOME A BLADE?

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster is reportedly set to move away from Anfield with Sheffield United the most likely destination.

Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the 20-year-old but the Blades are confident of securing Brewster after talks with Liverpool progressed over the weekend, according to the Star.

Brewster impressed at Swansea last season with 11 goals in 22 appearances and it is not out of the question that a loan deal with Sheffield United could be made.

LIVERPOOL EYE SAMP STAR

Liverpool are in the running to sign Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley, report Samp News 24.

The player has a £10.8 million release clause, representing a real bargain for the Reds and others.

BUNDESLIGA MIDFIELDER LINKED

No, not that one.

The Reds are also keen on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Bild say the Swiss enforcer won’t be available until next summer, when he’ll be given an asking price of £37m.

Probably not one to worry about just at the moment, then.

WILD SALAH-BARCELONA RUMOUR

Isn’t it supposed to be Gini Wijnaldum heading to Barcelona?!

Today’s rumour-mongering between Premier League and LaLiga has Mohamed Salah a potential target for the Catalan outfit, instead.

The hat-trick hero from the opening day of the season “would like to go” to the Camp Nou side and Ronald Koeman wants him, according to Ajax icon Sjaak Swart.

He’s a close friend of Koeman, report Dutch outlet Voetbalzone, but he wouldn’t go into detail as to how he knew Salah’s desires on the matter.

REDS YOUNGSTER HEADS TO MLS

Liverpool left-back Tony Gallacher has made a move to MLS and Canada, joining Toronto FC.

He joins until the end of the 2020 season in December, confirm the Reds, having made just one senior appearance so far.

Gallacher is a Scottish youth international.

ALCANTARA A ‘REALISTIC’ SIGNING SAYS SHERWOOD

Former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood believes Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara is a ‘realistic’ signing.

Liverpool are believed to have agreed terms with the Bayern Munich midfielder weeks ago, but are unwilling to meet the German side’s €30m transfer fee.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sherwood states that Liverpool can get the deal done for the 29-year-old:

Thiago is a player they are not going to find through their academy at this present moment in time, and he would help them out immensely.

He is a fantastic technician. I don’t think he is going to be signing a new signing at Bayern, so I think there is a realistic chance they would get him before the window closes.

VILLA REGISTER INTEREST IN LIVERPOOL TARGET

Aston Villa have registered an interest in Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica, according to the club’s head of professional football.

Clemens Fritz, who is the German side’s head of football, told Goal.com that the Midland outfit has expressed interest in Liverpool target Rashica, saying:

They got in touch, yes, I can confirm that.

There is nothing concrete. There are a couple of requests for him. We’re in intensive and close communication with his management.

The Kosovo international, a left-winger, has won 25 caps for his country, scoring four times.

LIVERPOOL TARGET STAYING PUT

Liverpool target Ozan Kabak isn’t leaving current club Schalke anytime soon, according to sporting director Jochen Schneider.

German outlet Bild reported in August that Liverpool were interested in signing the defender, along with Leicester City, as a replacement for Dejan Lovren.

However the German side’s sporting director Schneider has put an end to any speculation linking Kabak with a move to Merseyside, telling BuliNews:

Last year we managed to sign Ozan, who is one of the biggest talents in Europe at his position, and we are extremely happy about that. Ozan is a great player and a wonderful person. We are delighted he is with us. Our fans can be reassured Ozan will not leave.

Kabak made 26 appearances for Schalke last season, scoring three goals.
