Liverpool star 'very sad' after suffering season-ending injury

Liverpool have been hit by the news that Stefan Bajcetic will miss the remainder of the season through injury.

The midfielder’s been one of the few bright sparks at Anfield this season as he’s enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Reds.

The teenager missed Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg tie against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Jurgen Klopp said prior to kick-off that Bejcetic was suffering with a ‘stress response around the adductor’.

And the midfielder took to Instagram today to confirm he will be out for the rest of the campaign.

‘Unfortunately I’ve picked up an injury that will keep me out until the end of the season,’ he said.

‘It’s very sad to say goodbye to this amazing season for me but I understand this is part of football and will only make me stronger physically and mentally.

‘I would also like to say thank you to you reds for all the support through the season and I assure you I will do my best to be back stronger than ever.’

Klopp was forced into using James Milner and Cody Gakpo as makeshift central midfielders in the dying stages of Liverpool’s defeat to Madrid at the Bernabeu.

The German is expected to use most of his summer budget in revamping Liverpool’s midfield.

Jude Bellingham is a priority target but the club’s hopes of signing the teenager could hinge on the Reds’ top four hopes.

Liverpool face a testing run of fixtures in the Premier League over the next six weeks, where they’ll face Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham.
