Liverpool friendly details as Minamino scores to send Jurgen Klopp a message

Takumi Minamino's fine form continued as the Japan star scored in Liverpool's friendly draw with a Huddersfield Town B side on Sunday afternoon.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp used the fixture to hand minutes to players who did not start the 4-3 Premier League win over Leeds on Saturday evening.

Minamino broke the deadlock just before half time but an own goal in the final 15 minutes meant the match ended all square.

The 25-year-old's fine performance means he is now knocking on the door for a role in Klopp's starting XI.

Minamino also scored in the friendly thrashing of Blackpool 10 days ago and the Community Shield clash with Arsenal before that, while he was an unused substitute against Leeds.

But he may be set for an increasingly important role in the 2020/21 campaign after No9 Roberto Firmino failed to find the back of the net at Anfield.

The Brazil star scored in just one home league match last season and squandered a fantastic chance when through on goal against the Whites.

While Firmino is recognised as a key component of Liverpool's style of play, Klopp will be pondering how best to utilise all of his attackers ahead of the trip to Chelsea on Sunday.
