Jurgen Klopp has joked that Liverpool would’ve considered making a move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic had he not already played for rivals Manchester United.
Reports emerged earlier this week that the Reds were considering a shock move for the 38-year-old after he confirmed his departure from LA Galaxy on Thursday.
However, Klopp says Ibrahimovic’s two-year spell at United and his side’s ‘intense’ style of football mean the Swede perhaps isn’t the best fit for the club.

‘If he had not played for Manchester United before, then we might have considered him,’ Klopp told Sportbladet.
‘No, but I’m not even sure he wanted to play here. We’re a pretty intense team,’ Klopp laughed.
‘With that said, I couldn’t have had more respect for Zlatan. I love his whole career, love his efforts, love his confidence.
LA Galaxy boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto says Ibrahimovic wants to end his career in Italy
‘While it may not always be right, it is entertaining anyway. He’s a fantastic character and I really hope he doesn’t stop playing football. The world will miss him too much.’
A move to Italy would appear to be more likely, with Galaxy boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto revealing Ibrahimovic is keen to end his career in Serie A.
‘I don’t know what Ibra will do now,’ the Palermo old boy told Radio Kiss Kiss.
‘Hes a wonderful player, but I don’t know what his next step will be, maybe he’ll end his career at Napoli or even Milan.
‘I don’t know where, but he deserves and wants to finish his career in Italy.’
Ibrahimovic previously enjoyed successful spells with Inter, AC Milan and Juventus earlier in his career.
