Klopp explains why there was "no chance" he’d start Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak

Jurgen Klopp revealed there was "no chance" new signings Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak would start for Liverpool against Manchester City this Sunday.

The duo joined the Reds on deadline day, and have trained just four times with the first team.

As a result, Klopp felt it was unfair to throw them in the deep end against Liverpool's toughest title opponents, Manchester City.

So, instead, the German has selected a more "settled" pairing of captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at centre-back.

"There was no chance of them starting," said Klopp. They had four sessions together – we had options so it was clear we would start with the more settled pairing.

"We have to play football as well as defend so that is why we went for the two playing."

Kabak has been named on the bench for the match at Anfield, while Davies has been left out of the squad entirely.

A boost for Klopp is having Alisson back between the sticks, after the Brazilian missed Liverpool's defeat by Brighton with illness.

Sadio Mane has missed Liverpool's past two matches, and he returns alongside Fabinho.

"Returning players – it's good,' said Klopp, ahead of kick-off. "We can make decisions and we did. I am happy with the line up."
