Kalvin Phillips ‘is being monitored by top Champions League side’, with out of favour Manchester City midfielder ‘likely’ to leave the club in January transfer window
- Phillips was offered chance to leave in the summer but wanted to fight for place
- He is yet to start for City this season with just five starts since he joined the club
- The England midfielder remained absent recently despite Rodri’s suspension
Kalvin Phillips could be offered a way out of Manchester City via another European giant, according to a report.
Phillips has endured a difficult time with the Treble winners since signing for the club for £42million from Leeds a little over a year ago.
Tipped to be a vital player for the club and, if nothing more, an understudy to Rodri, the England midfielder has made just five starts for City, with a further 21 appearances coming from the bench.
His stock has dropped dramatically since leaving Leeds, where he was arguably the most important player before their relegation from the Premier League.
According to The Sun, however, he could be on his way out of the club as soon as January with Bayern Munich reportedly monitoring his progress.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is said to be wanting to strengthen his midfield and Phillips is on a list of potential targets as the winter window approaches.
It is suggested that a deal similar to that of Joao Cancelo last season, who left City for Bayern on loan, could be in place, with Pep Guardiola’s side seemingly open to a temporary deal.

Things haven’t gone to plan, however, with the 27-year-old yet to start a league game this season, with his one start coming in the Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle in September.
It was thought he might get some more playing time over the last three matches with key midfielder Rodri injured, but that didn’t transpire with several alternatives preferred.
Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis – naturally a full back – were all played ahead of Phillips and in some cases out of position, making it clear how far down in Guardiola’s estimations he is.
Phillips’ potential move would also likely be welcomed by England captain Harry Kane, who joined Bayern in the summer but is the only English player at the club.
