Jurgen Klopp blames 'cold feet' for Alisson mistakes in Man City defeat

Jurgen Klopp believes ‘cold feet’ could be to blame for Alisson’s two mistakes in Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Ilkay Gundogan’s opener was cancelled out by Mohamed Salah’s penalty but City were gifted their next two goals following two woeful clearances from Alisson.

The 4-1 defeat at Anfield has now left Liverpool 10 points behind City in the Premier League title race, while Pep Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand.

But despite the two major errors, Klopp defended Alisson after the match with the Liverpool boss keen to point out that the Brazilian goalkeeper has saved his side on multiple occasions.

Klopp also suggested that Liverpool’s defenders should have been positioned better to help Alisson for Gundogan’s second goal.

‘We cannot hide them and we don’t have to,’ Klopp told Sky Sports when asked about Alisson’s errors.

‘It’s true that we didn’t give him a lot of options, especially the first one but the second one he just miss-hit the ball.

‘There’s not a real explanation for it, maybe he had cold feet or something.

‘I know it sounds funny but it could be but then there’s still the opportunity to kick it in the stands.

‘But, again, Ali has saved our life plenty of times, no doubt about that, and tonight he made two mistakes. That’s how it is.’
