  • Jota believes game against Manchester United has come ‘at the right moment’

Diogo Jota is confident that Liverpool can secure a top four finish in the Premier League this season despite their struggles this term.

It has been a challenging campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have fallen far short of their usual high standards. However, they still have an opportunity to finish in the top four, especially as they have played two games less than Tottenham, who they trail in the table by six points.

Liverpool host Manchester United on Sunday and Jota believes that the game has come ‘at the right moment.’

As reported by Goal, Jota said: ‘I believe we can finish in the top four. Tottenham are fourth but we have a couple of games in hand.

‘We can do it by going on a run. United is always a special game but the three points are also important in everyone respecting our momentum. The game comes at the right moment.’

Jurgen Klopp’s side have lacked consistency this season but could still finish in the top four

Liverpool have shown some signs of improvement recently in terms of their league form, winning three of their last four matches.

Overcoming a resurgent United side will certainly be a difficult task, but if they do take all three points it will be a significant boost for Liverpool in their quest to finish in the top four.

Liverpool go into the game in sixth place, six points behind Tottenham but with two games in hand following the north London side’s 1-0 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

As well as United, Liverpool still have to face Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham before the end of the season.

However, finishing in the top four certainly seems Liverpool’s best chance of being in the Champions League next season, with Klopp’s side trailing 5-2 to Real Madrid ahead of the second leg of their last-16 tie.

Jota has yet to score for Liverpool this season in an injury-disrupted campaign. However, he provided an assist against his former club Wolves and will be determined to get on the scoresheet against United.
