Jamie Carragher hilariously began tucking into a bag of popcorn as Carlos Tevez’s agent hit back at Gary Neville over his comments about the former Manchester United striker live on Sky Sports.
Earlier this month, Neville slammed Tevez’s behaviour during his final year at Old Trafford and accused the Argentinian of ‘downing tools’ before completing a controversial move to bitter rivals Manchester City.
Tevez’s representative Kia Joorabchian responded by going public with his criticism of Neville this week, labelling the ex-United and England right-back ‘unprofessional’ for having the audacity to question the forward’s attitude and commitment.
‘There is no doubt that Carlos in that last few months of the season became disinterested, distracted, he wasn’t the same around the training pitch. He went into more of a sulky mood because he was disappointed that the club weren’t signing him, he definitely wasn’t the player that he was in the first…’ Neville said.
It was at this point that Neville’s words began to be drowned out by the sound of rustling in the background before Carragher appeared on screen with his hand in an enormous packet of Butterkist popcorn.
Neville and Joorabchian both broke into laughter at the sight of Carragher’s stunned expression before continuing to have it out over Tevez’s conduct towards the end of his stay with the Red Devils.
Later on in the argument, Neville pulled up a page of statistics to illustrate how Tevez was a ‘different person’ in his final few months at United under Sir Alex Ferguson.
‘Carlos’s performances in the second season dipped and it was the same in the Champions League, he scored a lot less goals,’ Neville continued.
‘So my view is there were definitely other complications that he had in terms of the club not triggering his option – you’ve admitted that.
‘And I saw Carlos in last five months at the club, and I don’t need to do my research on this because I was watching the boy and the thing about Carlos is he was a warrior on the football pitch. In the first 12 months at Manchester United, I’ve never seen anything more brilliant than him Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
‘However, in the last four months, the drop in the manner of his performances… just because maybe he was not being taken on by the club was alarming.
