Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has savaged Manchester United, along with his former England teammate Rio Ferdinand, following the Red Devil's 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo's 10th goal of the season and Jadon Sancho's first for the club separated the two sides as United secured qualification to the last 16.
Caretaker manager Michael Carrick was in the dugout taking charge of his first game following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.
After the match, Carragher hopped on to Twitter to have a bit of fun with the United supporters, writing: "Man Utd might not thank me, but get the contract out put it on the table & let him sign it, let him right whatever numbers he wants, let him sign the contract. Carrick’s at the wheel man!"
The post referenced Ferdinand's now infamous speech about Solskjaer in the aftermath of United's unlikely victory over Paris Saint Germain in 2019.
Speaking to his BT Sports colleagues after the game, the former Man United defender excitedly urged the club to hand Solskjaer a permanent contract, only a couple of months after the Norwegian arrived as caretaker boss after Jose Mourinho's departure.
Solskjaer lasted another two-and-a-half years in the job before being given his marching orders after losing 4-1 to Watford at the weekend.
United are currently considering moves for Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers and Erik ten Hag and are even contemplating hiring an interim manager to see out the remainder of the season if none of their candidates are available until the summer.

It's understood that Zinedine Zidane was the club's top target, but the former Real Madrid boss rejected the move due to a reluctance to work in England.
United have now reportedly turned their attention to Pochettino and are confident they can lure him to Old Trafford mid-season despite him being under contract with PSG.
