Ivan Toney has revealed the Premier League sides he would like to join if he were to leave Brentford.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a prolific campaign with the Bees last season, netting 20 times across 33 games to finish third in the Premier League’s scoring charts, behind only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

The striker’s momentum would come screeching to a halt in May however when he was banned from all football activity for breaching FA betting regulations.

In his first interview since the controversy, Toney revealed that he has since stopped gambling, and outlined his future plans in football should he depart the club he joined from Peterborough in 2020.

‘Everybody wants to play at the top of the tree,’ Toney told the Diary of a CEO podcast.

‘Not that Brentford aren’t there but playing for a big club and fighting for trophies, I really want to do that.

‘If the chance was to come along, I would be silly not to look more into it. The manager knows that I want to play at the highest level possible.

‘Whenever that time comes, so be it. My time at Brentford has probably been one of the best times in my career.

Asked whether a move to Liverpool, the team he supported growing up, interested him should he depart Brentford, Toney instead named of one the Reds’ Premier League rivals as his preferred destination.

‘The next club I go to if I was to move, it would be the right club. I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life but from young, I’ve liked Arsenal, watching Arsenal, how they play & how passionate the fans are.’

Toney also hailed Arsenal’s passionate fanbase as one of the club’s main selling points

Toney began his career at Northampton after emerging from the club’s academy, and went on to make 60 appearances and score 13 goals after breaking into the senior side before joining Newcastle in 2015.

The forward’s three years at St James’ Park would see him make just two Premier League appearances however, with the spell punctuated by a series of loans to League One clubs.

A permanent move to Peterborough followed, and he was named the League One Player of the Season for his performances in the 2019-2020 campaign before joining Brentford the following summer.
