Haaland resists urge to tap in Bernardo’s Man City goal leaving FPL fans livid

Erling Haaland left his FPL fans fuming after he resisted tapping in Bernardo Silva’s goal-bound effort and passing up the chance to add the simplest of goals to his Manchester City tally.

Haaland is the most owned player on FPL with a staggering 92.1% ownership, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka second on 64.9%. But the vast majority of players who have him in their team were left fuming after Haaland passed up the chance to add four more points to his gameweek tally on the game.

City found themselves a goal behind at half-time of their trip to the London Stadium to take on West Ham as James Ward-Prowse had headed in the opener for the Hammers. A nightmare first half for the visitors was compounded by Haaland missing two sitters, the first an open goal and the second a tame effort that Nayef Aguerd was able to clear off the line.

A frustrating first half soon turned around for City as new £55million winger Jeremy Doku equalised just one minute into the second half and Pep Guardiola’s side continued to knock on the door and eventually went ahead through Silva’s delicate flick that beat Alphonse Areola.

Silva latched onto the end of a sublime looped through ball from Julian Alvarez and flicked past the on rushing Areola. As the ball trickled towards the goal, Haaland arrived on the scene and despite being presented with the easiest chance of his career, the Norwegian instead left the ball to bounce in and Silva to claim the goal.

Fans took to social media to react to them missing out on the four points that a Haaland goal would’ve given them, or eight if he was selected as captain. One fan commented: “Highest level of dodging points.”

A second tweeted: “Haaland doesn’t care about my FPL after everything we’ve been through,” with a third adding: “I decide to captain Haaland today and he ghost, my God.” But Haaland owners were eventually able to breathe a sigh of relief after the inevitable marksman smashed in City’s third goal to clinch the win just four minutes from time.

Haaland was repaid the favour by Silva who slipped in the unmarked Norwegian who took one touch and struck an unerring effort across Areola to take his goal tally this season to seven in five games. Haaland remains the highest scoring player in the game so far with 45 points, nine ahead of City team-mate Alvarez.
