Erling Haaland has incredibly admitted that he still wants to improve his already-sensational goalscoring record. And his words will come as music to the ears of two of his potential suitors – Manchester United and Liverpool.

The 21-year-old Borussia Dortmund forward has formed a reputation as arguably the most exciting young player in world football over the past few years.

The star scored a sensational 63 goals in 64 games in all competitions for his club last season.

And he was at his very best on the international stage earlier this week, scoring a hat-trick in Norway’s 5-1 rout of Gibraltar.

Haaland already has 12 goals in just 15 appearances for his country – yet amazingly still does not seem satisfied.

Speaking after the game against Gibraltar, the wonderkid told TV2: “I do not score enough goals. I’m close to one goal [per game] on average. I personally think that I should have had more goals than matches.”

It is a remarkable statement from a player who many do not think can get much better.

Yet the prospect of him improving even further is one which will excite fans of United and Liverpool, both of whom will be hoping their respective teams make a move for Haaland in the next transfer window.

Haaland’s current deal with Dortmund expires in 2024, but he reportedly has a release clause of £66m which will come into effect next summer.

If that is the case he will have no shortage of suitors, with elite teams all around Europe believed to be queueing up for his signature.

Such is Haaland’s talent that it is almost certain that he already has one eye on breaking the all-time Norway goalscoring record, which is current held by Jorgen Juve who managed 33.

And when asked about this, Haaaland replied: “You can probably imagine what I am working towards.”

Haaland will return to action for Dortmund on Saturday when his side face Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

And fans of the German giants will no doubt simply try to enjoy watching Haaland while they can, with it appearing almost certain he will move on before too long.

The likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the Leeds-born man.

But a move to the Premier League may well be too big a temptation for him to resist.

And it will be intriguing to see who makes the first big-money bid for his services.
