Erling Haaland identified as ‘perfect’ transfer solution to Liverpool problem

Erling Haaland has been identified as the 'perfect' signing for Liverpool in this summer's transfer window.

And Borussia Dortmund's star striker could be a game-changing capture for Jurgen Klopp's side in the same vein as Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

Haaland is expected to be hot transfer property this summer, with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea all in the race to sign the 20-year-old.

The centre-forward's £68million release clause will become active in 2022 – but mega-rich City are expected to get one over on their rivals by launching a £100million bid ahead of next season.

However, former Liverpool defender Glen Johnson expects the Reds to match their rivals in a bidding war for the Norwegian hotshot.

Klopp's front three have been below their usual high standards in recent weeks, while his side have also missed the goals provided by summer signing Diogo Jota before he succumbed to a knee injury.

And Johnson reckons Haaland would be the ideal signing to rejuvenate the Reds attack.

"Haaland is a perfect asset for any top team at the moment," said Johnson in an interview with bettingexpert.com.

"He’s big, strong and a proper goalscorer.

"He’s very young so whoever buys him next could have the opportunity to sell him for an awful lot of money in five years time so, business-wise, it could be good to look at someone like that.

" Premier League clubs will want him because it will be a case of not wanting to miss out.

"If City go for him, Liverpool will think ‘we can’t let City have him’. And it could become a race to the line. I think there will be numerous clubs that will want him if they can afford him."

Johnson acknowledged that Liverpool are usually more prudent than many of their rivals in terms of how much they are willing to pay for players.

But they have had huge success in strengthening key positions when they have splashed out – as they did with Van Dijk and Alisson.

"Liverpool don’t buy people for the sake of it, they don’t spend over the top on just any player," said Johnson.

"They only do it when they feel like they’re getting it right and they’ve proven before that it works – they spent big money on Alisson and Van Dijk and they’re the two best players in those positions in the world.

"I think they will spend if the right player comes up.

"Someone like Haaland, I think they will spend big money on him."

Haaland has been nothing short of a revelation in top level European football ever since he left his native Norway just over two years ago.

He scored 29 goals in 27 games for Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg, and came to the world's attention when he scored eight times in six Champions League group stage matches last season.

He has kept up that prolific form at Dortmund, scoring 38 goals in 40 appearances ever since he joined the Bundesliga giants last January.
