Tottenham have confirmed the sacking of Jose Mourinho, with Daniel Levy insisting he enjoyed the time working with the Portuguese manager.

Mourinho was shown the door in north London on Monday following a tough season as Spurs boss.

Tottenham have struggled in the Premier League though will take on Manchester City in Sunday's Carabao Cup final as they look to win their first trophy since 2008.

Mourinho failed to secure silverware in north London, though Spurs chairman Levy enjoyed working with the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager.

Levy said: "Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club.

“Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

“On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.

“He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

Mourinho's last game as Tottenham boss was a 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday night, which was dampened by a late injury to Harry Kane.

Spurs are now five points off fourth-placed West Ham while Chelsea and Liverpool also sit above them with a game in hand.

Everton also have a game in hand with Tottenham’s slide having been dramatic since the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in late January.

Mourinho has only once posted a lower win ratio than his 51 per cent with Spurs, winning 44 of 86 games in total for Tottenham.
