Dan James ‘will leave’ Man Utd but Leeds set to miss out on top transfer target

Dan James is set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window after falling down the pecking order.

Leeds United were the favourites to land the Wales international but it now appears West Brom could snap him up.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plans on bolstering his defence in the transfer market.

The Norweigan is desperate to sign a centre-back, while Norwich ace Max Aarons is also high on the wish list.

But to bring players in, the Red Devils must be prepared to let some depart with their squad already bulging.

And James appears to be one of the first in line to head for the exit door after seeing his first-team chances drop.

Last season, the Welshman made 33 Premier League appearances but this term he has managed just five.

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford are Solskjaer's preferred options out wide, with Anthony Martial up front and Bruno Fernandes behind.

Amad Diallo is set to join up with the United squad in January after a transfer was agreed in the summer with Atalanta.

The Ivorian is set to further push James down the pecking order and a temporary move away is on the cards.

According to Todofichajes, West Brom are heading the list to snap the 23-year-old up on a loan deal until the end of the season.

That will come as a major blow to Leeds United, who were preparing a bid of their own.

The Whites tried to land the ex-Swansea star in the summer only to be rebuffed.

But they felt confident that a deal could be revisited in January as Marcelo Bielsa looks to build on a strong start to the season.

However, Sam Allardyce could end up having the last laugh as the club look to back him in the transfer window.

After sacking Slaven Bilic, the Baggies are desperate to stay in the Premier League but are scouring the bargain bucket to bring players in.

James is set to be one of those, Todofichajes report, with a loan relatively cheap and suiting all parties.
