Burnley signing Scott Twine rinsed for being "poshest footballer on the planet"

Burnley new boy Scott Twine has been rinsed by fans for being "the poshest footballer on the planet".

Twine signed a four-year contract with the Clarets over the weekend, making the step up to the Championship from MK Dons after being named League One Player of the Year last season. After taking in his new surroundings, the 22-year-old recorded a video which was shared on the club's social media accounts.

It was only seven seconds long but racked up over 1million views on Twitter a little over a day after it went live, with Twine's accent causing a stir. @_The72 replied: "Might be the poshest footballer on the planet."

User @stewartdyche echoed: "Too posh to play for my club release him." @EdJacobs14 joked: "When you sign for burnley at 2 but have chelsea flower show at 5."

Comparisons to trainspotter Francis Bourgeois flooded in, while another fan @JakeBleu asked: "Out of curiosity, If I walked into any pub in Burnley and said Up The Clarets in that accent, what would happen to me? Be honest."

But other viewers were distracted not by Twine's voice, but instead his good looks. @bfcHarvey27__ tweeted: "He is one sexy b****** ain’t he."

With hit ITV2 show Love Island the talk of the town, @lawrenzo7 commented: "Where are Burnley scouting now – Casa Amor?" Another funny comment by @ClaretEthanW read: "Already love him, not showing my girlfriend tho."

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is also chuffed to have Twine on board, telling the club website: "He’s an exciting young player that will help us in the short-term process and in the long-term project at Burnley Football Club.

"He’s a player we have looked at for a little while now, we know he can score goals and affect games. We’re glad to welcome him to the squad."
