Bruno Fernandes fuming with Sporting over bungled Man Utd transfer

Bruno Fernandes is fuming with Sporting after they informed him that they would not be accepting Manchester United's offer.

A transfer this month has been heavily touted after a series of talks this month over a move.

United have been desperate to sign a midfielder which has only amplified more after injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay.

Fernandes has been earmarked as the ideal target following a brilliant first half of the season which has seen the midfielder score eight times and get seven assists in 16 Primeira Liga games.

There was also a lengthy transfer saga in the summer that ultimately ended up fruitless.

And a transfer this month is close to following the same fate after a breakdown in talks between United and Sporting.

According to Duncan Castles on Reach PLC's The Transfer Window podcast, Old Trafford representatives were told that their latest offer will not be accepted.

This has infuriated Fernandes – who has had his heart set on a United transfer this month.

Should Man Utd walk away from Bruno Fernandes?

He said: “United offered €50m and an extra €30m in added bonuses, which include winning the Premier League, winning the Champions League and Fernandes finishing in the top three of the Ballon d’Or.

“Sporting have taken the position that the way that United are playing at the moment that amounts to €50m – which is less than what Tottenham offered in the summer.

“Sporting say they want a minimum of €65m guaranteed and bonuses to be achievable.

“Last night I am told that the Sporting president called Bruno Fernandes to inform him that they will not be accepting the offer from United as it stands.

“Bruno’s response, I am told, was one of anger – basically saying ‘You’ve cut my legs off in the summer when I had an offer then, I waited on the premise that you would let me go in January, I need to go now’.”

United were hoping to have Fernandes wrapped up ASAP and have him attending today's game against Liverpool.
