Blow for Man United as Anthony Martial is ‘ruled out of Sunday’s clash with Brighton and could be a doubt for Europa League trip to Granada’ after picking up knee injury on France duty
- Anthony Martial suffered an injury to his knee during a 2-0 win over Kazakhstan
- The forward missed France’s victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday
- Martial is now set to miss Manchester United’s game with Brighton this weekend
- He could also be a doubt for the first leg of United’s Europa League quarter-final
Anthony Martial will reportedly be unavailable for Manchester United’s game with Brighton after suffering a knee injury while on France duty.
The United forward picked up the injury in France’s 2-0 win over Kazakhstan in World Cup qualifying and missed their 1-0 victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday night.
France boss Didier Deschamps allayed fears over the severity of Martial’s problem by saying it ‘is nothing serious’ but L’Equipe have claimed it will prevent him from playing in United’s game with Brighton on Sunday.

The French publication also report that the 25-year-old, who only recently recovered from an issue with his hip, will be a doubt for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Granada the following Thursday.
The news will come as a blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is also likely to be without Mason Greenwood when they host Brighton after he had to withdraw from the Under-21s European Championship last week due to injury.
Martial, who has only missed one of United’s Premier League game this season when fit and available, is however expected to return in time for their trip to Tottenham on April 11.
United forward could also miss their Europa League quarter-final tie with Granada next week
The France international remains an important figure in the United team despite struggling to hit the heights of his career-best 23 goals last campaign. This season he has seven goals and eight assists to his name in all competitions.
Dechamps had insisted earlier this week that Martial’s injury was not a serious one and even suggested that he could have played a part in their win over Bosnia.
Speaking before that game, the France boss said: ‘Anthony has a small issue on his knee. Nothing is decided yet [as to whether he can play against Bosnia-Herzegovina].
It comes as a blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Mason Greenwood also struggling for fitness
‘He won’t be taking part in the training session a bit later. We’ll see tomorrow (Wednesday). Anything serious has been dismissed.
‘We’ve run some tests, but there’s still the pain, and having travelled as long as we have, that hasn’t helped.’
Despite being weakened by the forward’s absence, France managed to edge past Bosnia thanks to Antoine Griezmann’s second-half winner.
The victory has left France top of their qualifying group on seven points after a draw with Ukraine and win against Kazakhstan.
