Dimitar Berbatov has revealed why Adnan Januzaj didn't get the game time he deserved at Manchester United.
Belgian star Januzaj made his Red Devils debut as an 18-year-old substitute against Wigan in the 2013 Community Shield.
But the youngster really burst onto the scene when he made his full debut away to Sunderland in the Premier League.
Januzaj was a constant menace throughout and scored both goals as United recorded an important 2-1 victory.
Two weeks later he was awarded a bumper new five-year contract in an attempt to ward off potential suitors.
Yet Januzaj never truly lived up to that early promise and would only make a total of 68 appearances at Old Trafford.
United legend Berbatov reckons that timing played a part in Januzaj's potential going unfulfilled.
"I remember when Adnan was a very young boy and he would join the first team at United, he was very young and inexperienced"", he told betting.betfair.
"He had great quality but the timing probably wasn't quite right for him at United and maybe this was the reason why he didn't quite get the game time people expected towards the end of his time at the club.
"I remember a very young boy that was eager to play freely without much tactical awareness, always keen to go one on one against players, like all young players do. He's now 26 and he still has a lot of football ahead of him.
"Coming up against his former club I'm sure he will want to do well and score a goal, but United was in his past and he needs to look towards the future and I wish him luck."
Januzaj, now 26, joined Real Sociedad for £9million in 2017 after two loan spells with Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland.
He has performed well since making the switch, racking up over 100 appearances and 15 goals for Sociedad so far.
