Barcelona sporting director Ramon Planes has all-but confirmed Arturo Vidal’s departure from the club.

The midfielder was left out of Ronald Koeman’s squad for the Catalan giants’ pre-season friendly against Gimnastic last weekend and has been heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan.

Planes has provided an update on Vidal’s future and indicated that the deal to take him from Spain to Italy was edging closer.

‘We are in the negotiation process. We are in the front of a market with a lot of restriction. The clubs are affected by what has been caused by the virus,’ Planes said at Miralem Pjanic’s unveiling on Tuesday.

‘We have to be attentive to our objectives and know well what we want. Every case will be evaluated individually.’

Planes hailed Vidal for his commitment to Barcelona and thanked him for his service to the club.

‘I want to take this opportunity to thank Vidal,’ he added. ‘He has a huge heart and always shown dedication. He has been an important part of the team. He transmits a lot of energy.’

Vidal, who is expected to fly to Italy today to sign for Inter, has made 96 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists, after joining from German giants Bayern Munich in 2018.

The 33-year-old slammed Barcelona last month for only having ’13 professionals’ and bringing in so many youth players as well as claiming ‘extraterrestrial’ Lionel Messi has been asked to carry the team on his own.

Koeman is overhauling the squad this summer after taking over the reins at the Nou Camp following Quique Setien’s exit.
