Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be happy that Folarin Balogun has signed a new deal – with the Arsenal captain impressed by the striker's dress sense as much as his goalscoring talent.
Balogun ended months of speculation over his future on Monday when he penned a contract extension committing him to the Premier League side until 2025.
The 19-year-old had been linked with interest from the likes of Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen after scoring two goals from the bench in the Europa League group stages, while he has also fired nine in 17 games this season for Arsenal's under-23s.
Balogun will eventually be competing with Aubameyang for a place in Mikel Arteta's attack – and the skipper says he and fellow forward Alexandre Lacazette are already pals with the teenager.
“For sure he’s very, very talented and shows every time he trains with us that he is a really great talent and works a lot,” Aubameyang previously said about New York-born Balogun.
“I like his style as well, it’s like an American rapper, but he’s a humble guy as well.
“I don’t see him a lot but he’s a cool guy. We sometimes have a laugh with him and Laca.”
Balogun is planning to force his way into Arteta's plans next season – and said fellow strikers Aubameyang, Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah have been helping him feel at home whenever he has stepped up to first-team training.
"My ambitions for next season are to make an impact on the first team," said the England under-20 international, quoted by Football London.
"I see it as something I've taken upon myself to be able to go over there and make an impact and not just be one of the numbers.
"I want to be someone who eventually leads that group so I would say I have quite drive ambitions and we’ll see if I can make them happen."
Balogun added: "Every time I come over all the lads are friendly but in particular I would say just strikers union – Laca, Auba, Eddie, we all talk, we all get along and laugh.
"They’re just continuously trying to give me little tips here and there, things to just help me improve my game. So yeah that was good to see."
