Arsenal target Julian Brandt’s viewpoint on transfer emerges amid Mikel Arteta eagerness

Arsenal target Julian Brandt shows off skills in Bundesliga

Arsenal target Julian Brandt would prefer to stay at Borussia Dortmund and fight for his place, according to reports. The Germany international has been linked with Mikel Arteta amid the Spaniard’s eagerness to sign a new No 10. Mesut Ozil is expected to leave the club in the January transfer window and the north London giants know they need more than just Emile Smith Rowe if they’re to climb up the table.

With Ozil expected to leave Arsenal behind amid interest from Fenerbahce and MLS clubs, the Gunners are looking at replacements.

And one name on their radar is Brandt, who has endured a difficult season for Borussia Dortmund so far.

The Germany international is yet to score from 14 Bundesliga matches this term, managing to register just a single assist.

Arsenal could swoop to sign Brandt, even though a deal for Dortmund appears unlikely.

Yet Football London say the 24-year-old’s preference is to stay at the Westfalenstadion and fight for his place, despite the European Championships creeping closer.

While that’s the case, however, the report does say Brandt might be interested in a short-term loan move away from his homeland.

And it seems as though Arsenal are primed to miss out on the player, despite Arteta’s desire to strengthen his attacking options.

They’ve been linked with Christian Eriksen as well but that deal isn’t expected to happen.

Inter Milan want to jettison the Denmark international, who they only signed from Tottenham in January last year, but a move to Paris Saint-Germain seems far more likely.

Isco has also emerged as an Arsenal target.

But the Spain international, while Real Madrid want to cut him loose, is widely expected to stay in La Liga with Sevilla instead.

Last week, Dortmund chief Michael Zorc moved quickly to dismiss reports linking Arsenal with Brandt, claiming the club are yet to receive any form of proposal from the Gunners or any other interested parties.

“A name is constantly being mentioned that actually doesn’t play a role in our deliberations at the moment, that should come to an end,” Zorc said on Brandt.

“I can only repeat; there is not even the slightest bit of anything on the table. We can’t do anything if rumours are constantly being spread that are not true.”

Meanwhile, regarding Ozil, the Arsenal star has recently been vocal on social media.

But Arteta isn’t paying too much attention to the playmaker, saying: “I am sorry but I don’t have Twitter, I don’t follow Twitter.

“He’s done it in the past. It’s something he does to engage with his fans and keep everybody informed, so I’m not surprised.

“Edu [technical director] and the club are having some conversations about the near future and long-term future.

“When we know something we will announce it.

“We can resolve the situation one way or the other, it is always good to know what you are going to do, what is going to happen. I knew when we made that decision [to leave Ozil out of Arsenal’s squads], the consequences that we could have.

“We still have to try the right solution for the player and the club and we are trying to do that and let’s see what we get.”
