Arsenal forward Folarin Balogun has chosen to represent the United States at international level – and England fans are gutted.
Balogun has been in incredible form ever since he was loaned to Ligue 1 side Reims. He has hammered home 19 goals and contributed three assists, outscoring superstar Paris Saint Germain duo Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Many Arsenal fans are keen to see Mikel Arteta bring him back to the Emirates Stadium once his loan with the club comes to an end. But while Gunners’ fans could soon have the privilege of watching their academy star lead the line, England fans will not be able to see him do that for the Three Lions.

Despite representing England at U18, U20, and U21 level, the precocious 21-year-old has chosen to play for Team USA instead. “Balogun will show England what they missed out on when he reaches Haaland’s level,” one frustrated Three Lions supporter said.
“American fans should be very very excited. Would be the best 9 available in the team, fluid, and could be the first American to ever get 20 goals in one of Europe’s top 5 Leagues in a season,” another fuming Arsenal fan added. Predictably, there was some bitterness from some England fans, with one in particular saying he is “acting like he’s better than Toney.”

Balogun scored 10 goals in 24 appearances across England’s youth teams. However, he qualifies for the USA as he was born in New York City, thus giving him a US citizenship.
But despite his experience of playing for the Three Lions, Balogun believes his decision to snub Gareth Southgate’s side was a very easy decision. “My decision to represent the United States came together with my family,” Balogun said to the USA website.
“In the end it became a no-brainer, but for sure it’s just something I wanted to do and it feels like I’m at home here. To represent the United States means a lot, more than people would know.
“I’m very proud and honoured to have this opportunity, and I want to give everything I have to make our team successful.” Balogun could make his senior US debut in June, when the USA take on Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final.
