Arsenal backed to complete Christian Eriksen signing as Tottenham claim made

Arsenal have been backed to complete a deal to sign Christian Eriksen by their former striker Kevin Campbell. Eriksen spent seven years at Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham but Campbell says he doesn’t care about the midfielder’s Spurs past.

Eriksen only left Tottenham in January to join Serie A giants Inter Milan.

However, he has started just 11 league matches under Antonio Conte.

Reports from Italy say Conte would be happy to allow Eriksen to move to Arsenal in a swap deal with Gunners star Granit Xhaka.

And despite making over 300 appearances for Spurs, Campbell believes Eriksen would be a top addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

“Eriksen played for the rivals but we all know the quality he possesses, that is for sure,” Campbell told Football Insider.

“It is not quite working out for him at Inter Milan right now and I am sure he would be a good addition to Arsenal’s squad.

“I do not care if he played for Spurs – he is a superb player who can bring something to the table for Arsenal.

“I would not mind it if we swapped Eriksen for Xhaka. The key is building and  fattening that squad up to challenge and you can never have enough quality players.”

Arsenal have struggled in front of goal this season, netting just nine times in their first eight Premier League games of the campaign.

Bringing in a player like Eriksen would go some way to solving their creativity problems.

Arsenal wanted to sign Lyon star Houssem Aouar in the summer but instead chose to splash out on the £45million signing of Thomas Partey.

Aouar remains a target for Arteta and has also been joined on the club’s wishlist by Red Bull Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai, 20, has also attracted interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

The attacking midfielder led Hungary to qualification for Euro 2020 last week with a late winner against Iceland.

Former Germany star Lothar Matthaus is a huge fan of Szoboszlai and expects Bayern Munich to also be in the race to sign him.

“He is a gem,” Matthaus told Munchner Abendzeitung. “He’s like Kai Havertz.

“He could move to RB Leipzig in January, but I’m convinced that every top club in Europe has him on their list, including FC Bayern.

“In Hungary, Szoboszlai is already being compared to the great Ferenc Puskas.”
