Alonso shows Azpilicueta up in Chelsea bake-off battle ahead of West Ham clash

Marcos Alonso put his Chelsea captain to shame during a bake-off as the two prepare to face West Ham this lunchtime.

Cesar Azpilicueta was tasked with piping the iconic club badge onto his cake but despite making 443 appearances for the Blues his attempt resembled something that fell off a truck.

His club and country teammate Alonso, on the other hand, prepared a masterpiece that Mary Berry would be proud of.

BBC Radio 1 and 5 Live host Chris Stark set the Spaniards some Great British Bake Off -based challenges, hosted by Three’s #ConnectWith initiative.

And while their culinary skills might leave a poor taste in their mouths, there is a big month of festive football to sink their teeth into.

The first comes this lunchtime when they face London rivals West Ham with three points almost a must with Manchester City and Liverpool gunning them down.

The Hammers are fourth after a fantastic start to the season under David Moyes but have stuttered recently.

They have landed just one point from their last three matches – including throwing away two to Brighton on Wednesday night when Neal Maupay scored a last-gasp overhead kick.

But Chelsea have also had their problems as well, scraping three points against Watford and drawing to Burnley prior to the international break.

Azpilicueta and Alonso both started at wing-back against the Hornets but had a tough time and whether they play against West Ham remains to be seen.

Reece James is back in contention which could see the Blues captain return to the bench while Ben Chilwell remains out long-term.

However, with Trevoh Chalobah also injured, Azpilicueta could retain his starting XI status but be moved to centre-back alongside Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva.

Meanwhile, Chilwell might not be busy on the pitch anymore but looks like he is off it after Lewis Hamilton's ex sparked rumours they are dating on Instagram.
